Mayor Roberts opened the meeting at 6.05pm, congratulated newly elected Councillors Aitken, Nguyen, Parker, Winton and Zappa and the re-elected Councillors Guise, Newton and Treby.

Legislation requires that the election of the Deputy Mayor is to be conducted in accordance with the procedure prescribed by the Mayor. The procedure has been circulated to all Elected Members and is published in the current Special Council Meeting Papers.

Mr Jim Kelly will be "the person conducting the election" and will act in the context of a Returning Officer. He is undertaking this function independently of the Western Australian Electoral Commission to assist the City with transparency in its electoral process.

Mr Jim Kelly, the person conducting the election on behalf of the Mayor and CEO called for nominations and advised that one nomination had been received for the position of Deputy Mayor as follows:

Cr Guise nominated Cr Newton. Cr Newton accepted the nomination.

There being no further nominations, Mr Jim Kelly declared Cr Newton as Deputy Mayor of the City of Wanneroo.

Cr Newton then made a Declaration of Elected Member for the position of Deputy Mayor before Mayor Roberts.

Cr Newton thanked Elected Members for their support in her nomination.
